Timber Trails is a nine-hole golf course and it’s a great place for beginners and juniors to start playing. Other than our club championship and member-guest, we don’t offer a lot of competitive tournaments. We do, however, offer tournaments that promote the social aspect of the game. Our most popular events are our Bloody Mary tournaments. The golf portion of the event is a scramble, and it only costs members $31 to enter. Their entry fee includes golf, drinks, appetizers and a full buffet. During the actual tournament, my PGA Professional Golf Management Program interns and I drive around the golf course in a golf car to serve drinks and appetizers to the players. The members love the interaction, and we even will give them the occasional swing tip. After golf, the players congregate to eat from the buffet outside the clubhouse, picnic-style. While scores are kept, who wins isn’t important; the members have a good time spending the day with each other at the golf club. Because we take the pressure off the golf, it becomes an incredibly fun day for everyone involved.
Our Bloody Mary tournaments have become so popular that we now host four of them each year. Each tournament sells out within one day and we even keep a waiting list for the event. The tournament appeals to all of our members, from our seasoned golfers to the novices. In addition to the golfers, we allow friends and family members who didn’t play to come join in on the fun during dinner. The Bloody Mary tournaments have truly become the staple of our tournament program at Timber Trails.
