Good luck to you Joseph, what an exciting time and week for you. I would have to say I can’t see Tiger not winning there again. The USGA is getting a little out of hand when you are setting par 4s up over 500 yards, I can’t say I agree with that philosophy. I just had Johnny Miller out at my course for an outing and he was really excited to watch this Open himself. He feels the crowds will be very heavy Phil, due to the fact they already love him in New York and with the Amy ordeal. Have a great week!

Joseph, I just want to wish you and your staff all the best. I always get excited for the U.S. Open and I am sure you can’t wait to get it started. I have to pick Tiger this week also, and my long shot would be Jim Furyk. They both play well in the U.S. Open and are coming off a good week at The Memorial.
I have a couple of my members heading your way this week. One is a volunteer and the others are spectators. Lets hope the weather man is wrong and you can keep everyone dry. Good luck and have fun!

  3. Andy Thuney, PGA, Hacienda Golf Club says:

Joseph, to all your staff at Bethpage, enjoy the memories that U.S. Open Week creates. We’ll be watching intently from the West Coast as Tiger goes for yet another major. I hope the USGA doesn’t get too tough with the rough this year so more players can contend for the trophy. Although the blast-away-and-put-it-back-in-play mentality worked last time at Bethpage, I think this might be the year for a shorter, straighter shotmaker to win. I like Steve Stricker or Brian Gay. They’ve had good years, and keep it in play. Strick is definitely due for a major.

Good luck, Joe, on having a great week and showing the world how great a facility you have.
For my prediction on a winner, let’s go with the longest hitter. Alenos Quiro’s – I don’t think that’s the right spelling [Alvaro Quiros?] – but you have to go with a long hitter because with the Black so long and with the weather it is essential.

Joe, Enjoy the week, I hope the weather co-operates for the greatest venue for a U.S. Open. Enjoy and hope to see you this week! I think Phil will win!

  6. John Lindert, PGA Director of Golf, Country Club of Lansing says:

    Joe,
Good Luck as I write this I see the weather is not cooperating for you. I am a little confused as to the USGA’s philosophy with the par 4s over 500 yards, as even one par 4 is longer than a par 5. The USGA needs to follow its own guidelines and let the players shoot what they will shoot.
